Minister’s 2024-2025 annual report on the French Language Services Act tabled
Today, the Government of Prince Edward Island tabled the 2024-2025 Minister’s report on the French Language Services Act.
The Acadian and Francophone Affairs Secretariat prepares the report on behalf of the Minister to show the provincial government’s progress in meeting the French language service needs of PEI’s Acadian and Francophone community.
“Our government is committed to improving French-language services and addressing the priorities of the Acadian and Francophone community. With our on-going training and support programs, we now have more bilingual employees in the provincial public service. This increase lets us offer more bilingual services and better meet the needs of Islanders.”
— Minister responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs Gilles Arsenault
Progress highlights from 2024-2025 annual report:
- A total of 425 bilingual employees work within the provincial government, up from 387 in the previous fiscal year, with 162 working in designated bilingual positions.
- The inaugural Bonjour Day training offered bilingual provincial government employees workshops to improve language skills and build confidence in speaking French.
- Three new French-language services were designated in education and culture bringing the total to 43.
- Exploring the designation of August as Acadian Heritage Month in PEI.
- Preparing to sign the Québec-PEI Cooperation Agreement to build on collaborative projects that promote Frech language and Francophonie culture across Canada.
A new feedback form is available on the Acadian and Francophone Affairs webpage for Islanders to submit any feedback regarding government services offered in French. The feedback will be used to help improve French language services provided by the provincial government.
